A fun thing that I’ve been seeing on Instagram a lot today was people starting to post their little “goodbye marquette :,(” posts. I have…many thoughts on this. Honestly, everybody who says that high school was the best four years of their life clearly are going to peak in high school and they don’t seem to realize it. I hate to sound bitter, but these have been the worst four years of my life so far and I sincerely hope that they stay that way. I plan on peaking in/after college, like any self-respecting person should. It’s just so funny that everyone has these cutesy memories from football games or homecoming or whatever. Some of my most vivid memories are literally me skipping class to cry in the bathroom over a grade or my shitty teammates. Teacher-wise, I had a lot of wonderful teachers, sure. But I also had teachers who accused me of random things during class to the point where I faked sick just to leave before seeing her. I will never like math ever again. I hated high school. Obviously there were good times, and I met some good people, but as a whole, it sucked. I’m glad it’s over. I don’t care about graduation or any last senior send-off things, I want out. The best thing that Marquette can do for me now is let me move the hell on and never look back.
My dad said something at dinner tonight, and I have to write about this or it’s going to bug me for a while. I mentioned that a guy that’s going to Pitt next year is a very very extreme catholic (anti-most things and tries to convert people, calls all women whores, etc). When I said this, my dad claimed that an extreme catholic is more like a Mother Theresa or the Pope, and you know what, sure, you could say that. The thing is, though, if you would call an extreme Muslim a terrorist, then you should be willing to say the same about an extreme Catholic. If you wouldn’t, that is a personal bias that needs to be considered closely. Catholicism isn’t inherently a better or worse religion than any other, but extremists can come from any religion, and people will use any religion to justify their hate and violence. This isn’t exclusive to one religion, despite what a lot of Americans pretend. Just because Catholicism brands itself as the purest, most holy religion doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have a bloody and fucked up past. In regards to this specific person, I’m definitely scared of him and I hope that I never have to be in a room alone with him because I really cannot trust that he will not do something violent to me.
Song of the day: Mr. Brightside by The Killers (iconic, I know)
I used to tell kids, “If you make high school the 4 best years of your life, sadly it will be.”
Peaks come mid to late 20’s. : ) Stay in touch on here!
