I’m a little ashamed to admit that I went to sleep before the Penguins started to third period. I didn’t miss much- a goal by Rusty, but a loss in regulation. Their forwards looked great. Shears looked amazing. I didn’t count how many times he fell (he does that, it’s alright), but it was a lot. Just like old times. He didn’t score, but he had some great chances and he was fitting in well with Crosby and Zucker. The powerplay was a little lackluster, but I’m sure Sully’ll have them work on that before they play Anaheim tomorrow.
Now for the worst part of last night’s game. I’ve tried over and over again to have faith in Jack Johnson, but I’ve really seen all I need to. He isn’t good. He hasn’t been good for the three(?) years he’s been in Pittsburgh. Putting him with Letang isn’t going to make him good. Once Marino and Dumoulin come back, it won’t be as big of an issue, but right now our defense is struggling. The good news is Dumo and Marino practiced and are traveling with the team.
I did watch the very end of the Avs game. Lots to talk about there. Jost looked phenomenal. It’s great to see him doing so well. He’s always been one of my favorites. Compher score the GWG, and Kaut scored his first NHL goal. We’re all very proud. The defense looked great. The Makar-Graves tandem is so consistently good, same with Girard-Johnson. They’re going to make the playoffs for sure, and honestly, they’re going to be dangerous. They could easily beat the Blues if it came down to it.
