Bye week technically ended on Saturday, but I didn’t want to leave pt. 1 hanging, so this is pt. 2. This is going to be all/almost all hockey today so feel free to skip if that’s annoying.
I’ll start with the Battle of Alberta since that’s the biggest thing that happened this weekend. The line brawl was almost expected, the goalie fight was a surprise. It’ll be interesting to see how it plays out if the Oilers and Flames play each other in the playoffs. The NHL must be a little worried about it. It would be a fun series to watch, but very risky in terms of not wanting players to kill each other. I don’t have a preference between the two teams (I actually prefer the Oilers, but I’m not too invested. Go Canucks.)
The Pens beat the Caps 4-3, and I’m not too proud to admit that the officiating was not great. Things definitely worked out it the Pens’ favor, but to be fair things have been biased towards the Caps in the past, so it balances out in the end. I don’t hate the Caps but I do hate Tom Wilson so I have to root against them on principle. Nicklas Backstrom and Braden Holtby are the best Caps and it’s not even close.
Song of the Day: Wheat Kings by The Tragically Hip (Apparently this song is about a murder in Canada in the 90’s, but the song sounds cool. I also didn’t know that a wheat king is an oil baron but country. There’s a hockey team called the Wheat Kings in Manitoba. I had no idea that’s what their name meant, so that’s cool.)
